As some will know I am also a fully certified drone pilot. This enables me to provide services such as aerial views of construction projects, landscape images and editorial and general events. When you have a camera in the sky the options are vast and show the exact scale of a project that was previously not possible.
I often carry out my own ideas for drone images, usually with a current affairs twist that will help the image get published. A great example of this was the Summer Solstice at Stonehenge which I thought pictorially was getting quite tired over the years. We are all used to the same images of hippies doing peace signs etc but crucially….we had never seen the event from the sky….until now. The resulting image was sent out to all the newspapers with every single paper using the image, The Daily Telegraph over the Daily Mail both used the image over 2 pages.
Another great example is the tried and tested hot weather picture. which is nearly always girls splashing around at the beach in bikinis. I personally was totally bored with this concept so for me it was begging to shot from the sky. The resulting image from the boiling Good Friday on Bournemouth beach made the front of The Daily Telegraph. It also made the Times and The Daily Mail. As with all my images permission was sought from parties involved…including the CAA.
