Last week I had the huge honour of photographing Sir David Attenborough for the Open University where he helped them celebrate their 50th Birthday giving a short speech.

Although The Big Ladder brand is for drone photography if it wasn’t for Sir David Attenborough I possibly wouldn’t be a photographer today or if I was I certainly wouldn’t be so environmentally aware and therefore nowhere near as fascinated with the environment around me.

It was through all of Attenborough’s programmes from Wildlife on One to present day programmes such as Planet Earth and Our Planet that I have become acutely aware of the beauty of the planet and the need to explore and show our environment to the wider world by drone from above.

As many may be aware from viewing these programmes almost 50% of the footage on these shows are filmed by drone. As we know drones generally receive terrible publicity in the press, however they have become essential for programmes like Our Planet as they are far less obtrusive than a helicopter of old. Much of the footage from this series in fact was ONLY possible because of drone technology.

Sir David was joined by Lord (David Puttnam) who produced Chariots Of Fire and The Killing Fields.
